Kristina Newfang is a NYS certified teacher with a Masters in mathematics education from SUNY Albany. Though her primary focus has been her work in secondary education, fitness has always been her other passion. At the age of 5 she began dancing at “Dansville Dance Academy” in her home state of NY, training in ballet, tap, and jazz. Kristina danced all the way through high school, as well as participating in sports, including soccer, cheerleading, and track. In her undergrad and graduate studies, she remained active. Taking fitness classes, sneaking in an Intro to Dance course, and joining a dance team kept her moving. After teaching high school math for 5 years in NY, her personal life led her to Monterey, California. Still teaching mathematics, she spent her off time taking classes at Monterey Sports Center. It was while living in CA that her love of fitness encouraged to expand upon her teaching career to obtain as AFAA group fitness certification. Having a background as a dancer and an athlete, Kristina sought certifications in her interests. Fueled by her love and experience with barre, she pursed training in San Francisco, and became a Booty Barre Plus Instructor studying under Tracey Mallet in August of 2012. The following month, she went to San Jose to fulfil Mindy Mylrea’s Tabata Bootcamp Training which has allowed her to add HIIT classes to her repertoire. Kristina is planning on continuing her pursuit in fitness and hopes to obtain a POUND and TRX certification in the spring of 2014.
